Kyle's Challenge: WDET's Latest Community Impact Campaign
October 15, 2012
"You are doing great things at WDET. A heartfelt "thanks" to all who donated during Kyle's Challenge. Imagine what your support means to the 5 local, youth-focused nonprofit organizations who will receive at least $10,000 in on-air time to promote awareness of their cause. As one of the recipients of that generosity, I am humble and proud, at the same time and so very emotional." - Aimee Cowher, Kyle's Mom
WDET's Fall Fundraiser was a huge success. Everyone did their part and it worked.
During the fundraiser, WDET received the largest single challenge gift in the station's history from Gary Cone and Aimee Cowher. We met Gary and Aimee a few months back and connected over WDET's Community Impact strategy, like our wildly popular Books For Kids Campaign. They wanted to create something that would provide a healthy incentive and do real, meaningful good so, together, we create Kyle's Challenge - WDET's most ambitious Community Impact Campaign to date. You can hear Gary tell the story below:
WDET committed that if 200 individuals gave, in any amount, we would then donate 5, $10,000 free on-air promotional campaigns to local, youth-focused nonprofits. WDET's listeners responded with such enthusiasm and shot so far beyond the mark (318!!) that WDET is upping our gifts. Each of the following organizations will receive $15,000 in marketing support thanks to Kyle's Challenge: The Ruth Ellis Center, Inside/Out Literary Arts, Covenant House, Think Detroit P.A.L. and The Kyle John Rymiszewski Foundation
This was a huge win for everyone. The organizations get some much-needed visibility - and WDET is a much stronger station with the tremendous infusion of support. Kyle's Challenge generated almost twice as many gifts as the same day in the previous fundraiser.
