Thanks to many generous WDET donors, the Detroit youth poetry slam team has safely arrived at Brave New Voices, the international youth poetry slam festival, in Chicago! These five team members are participants in InsideOut Literary Arts Project's Citywide Poets program, and have spent years preparing for this opportunity. In 2011 Detroit’s Team placed #4 in the world at Brave New Voices Competition, but in 2012, the team was not able to attend due to lack of funds.

Because of your support, our whole region will be rooting for these dedicated young poets!

WDET's on-location coverage begins tomorrow so tune in, follow along via Twitter at #bnv2013 and join us in cheering on our team!

The Brave New Voices series is part of WDET's Summer of Kids. Learn how you can support the Detroit team and create new opportunities for local youth at wdet.org/kids.
