StoryCorps: Chuck, Haider & Eide Alawan

August 16th, 2012

America’s largest oral history project just wrapped up a month in Metro Detroit. StoryCorps' was an amazing success thanks to you, the storytellers, your friends and neighbors. The mobile booth spent time outside of the Carr Center in Detroit's Harmonie Park/Paradise Valley district and the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. Today's story come from three brothers: Chuck, Haider and Eide Alawan. They talk about working in their father’s grocery store in the 1940s and 1950s and some culture clashes that took place in the west side Detroit neighborhood.
