The Story Of A Coffee House Amidst Detroit's Bankruptcy

Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014

Wednesday, we're heading over to Always Brewing Detroit, at 19180 Grand River, in District 1, to talk bankruptcy and what's next in Detroit. Next Chapter Detroit blogger Sandra Svoboda updates us on the bankruptcy proceedings and discusses this week's community meeting. She spoke with Amanda Brewington, Owner of Always Brewing, a coffee shop on Grand River in North Rosedale Park. she says she actually just wanted to open a coffee shop in the city of Detroit so she started driving around, looking at places and was finding a few but never the right one because they either had no parking, no roof, or other shortcomings. She says she ended up in Grandmont Rosedale due to a mentor at Techtown. Brewington says " He had a meeting with Tom Goddeeris, the executive director of the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation, and Tom was like, yeah, I wish we had a coffee shop over here and Darren, that’s my mentor, said I know a girl. She’s trying to find a coffee shop. So that’s how we ended up in Grandmont Rosedale".
