I Do Mind Dying: A Live Action Mix-Tape

A trio of Michigan artists are producing a one-of-a-kind concert in Detroit. Detroit rappers Invincible and Miz Korona, along with Flint vocalist Tunde Olaniran, have assembled a band comprised of poets, jazz musicians, and singers from around the region. They describe the project, titled “I Do Mind Dying,” as a live mix-tape. When WDET's Travis Wright spoke with the trio, Miz Korona explained the collaborative spirit that exists among these dynamic artists. July 19th, 8-11PM, New Center Park, Free.

Red Bull Creation: The Coolest Geeks Compete!

Hackers, inventors and makers of all kinds are in Detroit this week to construct something tech-oriented, inspired by a secret topic, for the “Red Bull Creation” event. The competition pits teams from metro Detroit against some of America’s best makers. The creations will be on display and a winner will be announced on Saturday (July 12) in Eastern Market. Jason Naumoff is the founder of Red Bull Creation. He tells WDET’s Travis Wright why the energy drink company is interested in competitive hacking.

The youngest son of afrobeat pioneer and social activist Fela Kuti, Seun started playing in the famous Egypt 80 band as a teenager. Emulating his father’s approach to singing, playing saxophone, and dancing, the young prince of afrobeat rips into subjects like Big Oil in Africa, malaria, and mass murder with his own songs, and signature Kuti charisma.
