Oakland University alumna Midge Kinder says yoga and self-management skills are useful for curbing stress in the lives of children. Kinder is the founder of Wellness Works in Schools, a health and wellness educational program that teaches awareness, concentration and yoga to students in school classrooms. She spoke with WDET’s Shelby Reynolds about the science of stress and the benefits of self-management education on children’s behavior, focus and learning retention.

"The hippocampus, which is responsible for learning and memory, ... under stress, shrinks."
