Tom Watkins: How The Sequester Will Affect Education

Wednesday February 27, 2013

With the federal budget sequester set to take effect on March 1st, many in Michigan are left wondering how the potential budget cuts will affect the state, and education in particular. According to the White House, "Michigan will lose approximately $22 million in funding for primary and secondary education, putting around 300 teacher and aide jobs at risk. In addition about 25,000 fewer students would be served and approximately 80 fewer schools would receive funding. In addition, Michigan will lose approximately $20.3 million in funds for about 240 teachers, aides, and staff who help children with disabilities."

Guest host Stephen Henderson speaks with Tom Watkins, former State of Michigan Superintendent, about his views on the sequester and how the cuts may affect education in Michigan.
