People work their whole lives to save up money for retirement, but one out of every twenty elders that is supposed to be enjoying their golden years is now facing the challenge of dealing with financial exploitation. Victims lose anywhere from $79,000 to $186,000 or more. Dr. Peter Lichtenberg, Director of the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University will discuss his findings on September 30, at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts. The event will analyze the multiple ways older adults are exploited and start with "Last Will and Embezzlement," a documentary about financial abuse starring Hollywood star Mickey Rooney.

The segment was made possible by the MetLife Foundation Journalists in Aging Fellows Program, a project of New America Media and the Gerontological Society of America.
