Stations of the Cross

Thursday, April 5, 2012

Good Friday is tomorrow and Christians all over the world will be gathering to do the Station of the Cross. A group of Catholics will gather to do the Stations of the Cross in Downtown and Corktown. The Stations of the Cross began in Detroit 34 years ago. It’s a Peace Walk that takes place on Good Friday and examines injustice and those affected. The procession started during Easter 1978 in response to the wars in Central America. Roughly 200 people gather yearly. The procession begins at 12 noon at in the parking lot of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Trumbull and Michigan Avenue. All are welcome. The message is about how crucifixion happens today. This year’s procession is collaboration between St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Detroit Catholic Workers, Central Methodist and Spirit of Hope Church.

Leading the procession is Methodist Minister – Bill Wylie-Kellerman of St. Peters Episcopal Church. 313-433-1967.
