Tom Curran, the Interim CEO/Executive Director of the Municipal Services Authority (MSA)--the new public-private partnership developed to facilitate the collaboration and service sharing of local units--talks with Craig about the upcoming Local Governmental Summit on Efficiency Creation and Cost Saving Summit. The Summit will address the potential cost savings and challenges of collaboration and sharing of services across governmental segments for counties, cities, townships and school districts.
While local government and school district officials may understand and yearn for the money-saving benefits of collaboration and shared services, the road to successful implementation is fraught with daunting challenges that seem insurmountable. Highlighting lessons learned and success stories from around the state, the Summit will bring several agencies--such as the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Counties--to meet with local representatives.
At the Summit, Curran will discuss the “Virtual City” and the best practices emerging from the shared services between the cities of Grand Rapids and Livonia.
The Summit will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
