CAR Report: U.S. Economy Better Off With GM Restructure

Tuesday, December 10, 2013

The Center for Automotive Research released a new report that says the U.S. economy is better off with the restructuring of General Motors. Craig talks to CAR chief economist Executive Vice President Sean McAliden about the report.

From the CAR: "CAR has released a new study estimating the effect on the U.S. economy of the successful restructuring of General Motors. This research memorandum estimates the value to the U.S. economy of the federal government’s intervention to prevent the failure of GM and Chrysler at the beginning of 2009. CAR previously highlighted the impact of the pending bankruptcies on the economy, in research memorandums released in 2009 and 2010. This updated memorandum provides an evaluation of the decision to provide funding to help General Motors and Chrysler through the bankruptcies and the broader implications for the U.S. economy."
