On Being
Being is a spacious conversation — and an evolving media space — where big questions help you to explore the center of human life, from the boldest new science of the human brain to the most ancient traditions of the human spirit. |
This American Life
This American Life is best described as a movie for radio. There are people in dramatic situations. Things happen to them. There are funny moments and emotional moments and—hopefully—moments where the people in the story say interesting, surprising things about it all. |

Losing confidence in our public schools? According to a recent survey, Americans like the schools that our children attend but we have no faith in the public school system as a whole. Americans' confidence in public schools is down five percentage points from last year. That establishes a new low in public school confidence from the 33 percent measured in a 2007 Gallup poll and 2008 Confidence in Institutions polls.
The high was 58 percent the first time Gallup included public schools, in 1973. Gallup has asked Americans to say how much confidence they have in a variety of U.S. institutions since 1973 and annually since 1993.
