Proposal M: Should Detroit Decriminalize Marijuana?

Monday, October 29, 2012

Detroiters will see several ballot initiatives when they go to vote on November 6th. Among them is Proposal M…which would exempt adults 21 and over…from criminal prosecution for the use or possession of an ounce or less of marijuana on private property.

WDETs Martina Guzman spoke with advocates from both sides of the issue: First, Tim Beck…the Chairman of the Coalition for a Safer Detroit. He says legalizing marijuana would take a burden off of Detroit police officers… allowing them to focus on more serious crimes.

Then Martina speaks with Tim Beck, chairman of the Coalition for a Safer Detroit. His group supports Detroit’s Proposal M. On the other side of the issue is Lawrence Kenyatta with The Partnership for a Drug Free Detroit. He says passing Proposal “M” would negatively impact a city that already has crushing problems.
