People's Choice Call-in: City Finances

Monday, July 29, 2013

Callers weigh in on the latest bankruptcy news that Attorney General Bill Schuette joined pensioner's lawsuit against the City of Detroit, and U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew says no city bailout is coming.

The Detroit Free Press reports that AG Bill Schuette joined the lawsuit with city pensioners against Detroit. Schuette said the Michigan Constitution protects public employee pensions.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew joined CNN's Candy Crawley on Sunday, July 28, 2013. Lew said he will offer moral and practical support for Detroit, but no bailout as there was for automotive companies and banks.

What might "moral and practical support" from the Federal government look like? or how might the city or state address public pension funding if the court rules in Schuette and pensioners' favor?
