Larry Gibson has traveled across the country for more than a decade speaking about the threats of mountaintop removal mining and the importance of preserving Appalachian heritage. Gibson began organizing local citizens in 1985 to protect Kayford Mountain in West Virginia, which has been home to his family since the late 1700s. Since then, he has worked with the Sierra Club, National Resource Defense Council, Rainforest Action Network, Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, Coal River Mountain Watch and numerous other organizations to protect the Appalachian Mountains. In 2005, Keeper of the Mountains Foundation was founded to support Gibson’s education and activism. Today,Gibson joins Craig in discussion about the need for preservation of the Appalachian Mountain tops and the threat of mining.
