Metro Times managing editor, Michael Jackman, talks about an article he wrote on the skate boarding culture in Detroit. It's a growing trend that's anchored by a few well established hubs. Skate boarding continues to gain popularity in Detroit thanks in large part to the Ride it Sculpture Park that was funded last year by the Tony Hawk Charitable Foundation. It was an idea submitted to the foundation by Mitch and Gina Reichert. A skate boarding shop in Hamtramck called Chiipss, is owned by Pat Miller, and has been opened for a year. Chiipss has been thriving and continuing to grow as the sport gains more popularity in the Detroit area.

What is your opinion on the growing popularity of skate boarding in Detroit?
