Father's Love Proves Stronger Than Son's Mental Illness

More than 40 years ago… Michigan native, John Kelly had psychotic break. His parents Dan and Rosemary were told by doctors they had to institutional their only son…yet they found no medial answers or understanding of his mental illness.

After years of treatment the Kelly’s decided establish their own mental health facility… the only one of its kind in Michigan. Rose Hill Center is residential treatment program that treats patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression.
WDET’s Martina Guzman spoke to Dan Kelly about how his son inspired him to build Rose Hill Center and why he wants to help people better understand mental illness.
