Lone Wolverine

You may remember that just a couple of years ago there was a wolverine living in the wilderness near Bad Axe. What you may not know is the animal was closely monitored by a local outdoorsman, Jeff Ford. The story of Jeff’s experience following the wolverine is documented in a new book called “The Lone Wolverine,” by Elizabeth Shaw. WDET’s Laura Weber brings us this tale about the only known wolverine living in a state that is no longer native to the species.

The Lone Wolverine is a new book by Jeff Ford and Elizabeth Phillips Shaw about a wolverine that was tracked from 2004 until 2010 when it was found dead by a group of hikers. Mr. Ford is an amateur naturalist that documented the lone wolverine with hundreds of pictures and hours of video clips during the six year period. The wolverine was found in northern section of the Thumb region. Elizabeth Phillips Shaw is a fellow at Michigan State University's Knight Center for Environmental Journalism.
