A new policy could impact thousand of Michigan families currently receiving food stamp assistance. For roughly a decade Michigan has determined food assistance eligibility based only on income. The new policy will include a review of financial assets. Those with assets of more than $5,000 in bank accounts or some types of property would no longer be eligible for food assistance. Automobiles with a value of more than $15,000 and second homes (depending on the value) would also count. In-studio guests THAW Vice President of Strategy and Development, Bill Sullivan and CEO of The Coalition on Temporary Shelter, Cheryl P. Johnson bring their expertise to the program.
