Khary Frazier Talks Juneteenth: Free Association Commemorating End of Slavery in U.S.

Tuesday June 19, 2012

Craig speaks with Hip-Hop artist and community advocate Khary Frazier about "Juneteenth: Free Association," an open discussion about freedom being held at 6 p.m. tonight at First Congregational Church in Detroit. The goal of the discussion is to mix individual ideals and experiences in relation to freedom to build a more universal understanding for all attendants. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. "Juneteenth: Free Association" is free to the public and open to anyone who wishes to attend.
