Julian Raby Previews His Discussion About the Freer House and the Asian Art Collection Housed There

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

Julian Raby, PhD, director of the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Art at the Smithsonian Institute discusses his upcoming presentation at the Detroit Institute of Arts titled, "Points of Contact: Freer's Vision for American and Asian Art--Past, Present and Future." Charles Lang Freer assembled one of the largest and finest collections of American and Asian art in his Detroit home. However, the collection has shifted over the past 75 years to focus primarily on Asian masterpieces. Raby will discuss why that shift has occurred and Freer's philosophy on art. His presentation will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Marvin and Betty Danto Lecture Hall at the DIA. Click here for details.
