Roughly one-thousand children under the age of eighteen, some as young as three years old, are being held in a makeshift holding center in Nogales, Arizona. Fernanda Echavarri is an immigration reporter for Arizona Public Media. She spoke to Martina Guzmán about how this incident could impact cities across the U.S. -- including Detroit.

The immigrant children, mostly from Central America have crossed the U.S. border alone…without families. The Department of Homeland Security is prohibited from immediately deporting the children if they are not from Canada or Mexico. The discovery of the children at the detention facility has outraged national human rights organizations and lawmakers alike.
