Crains: The "Grand Bargain" and Michigan's Loss Of Method Soap

Monday, June 2, 2014

Craig talks with Crains Detroit Business Entrpreneurship Reporter, Amy Haimerl about the deal discussed at the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr has proposed a "grand bargain" that will be detrimental to retirees pensions and annuities, but would generate enough money to bring Detroit out of debt. According to Haimerl, the bargain would generate $816 million from various foundations as well as the State of Michigan.

She also discusses how Detroit did not take advantage of the opportunity to invest in Method Home products. Haimerl says that the business could have "created over 100 green-manufacturing jobs" and invested $35 million.
