"Gloryland" by Shelton Johnson

Gloryland chronicles the life of a recently freed black youth who moves out west to become a homesteader. Shelton Johnson grew up in Detroit and went to Cass Tech for high school and University of Michigan for his Bachelor and Graduate Degrees. Shelton was in the Ken Burns' documentary The National Parks: America's Best Idea. He is presently working as a ranger at Yosemite National Park.
