What National Extension of Gay Marriage Benefits Means for Michigan

Creative Commons by Fibonacci Blue US Attorney General Eric Holder has announced a number of new benefits for same-sex married couples. ACLU of Michigan LGBT Project staff attorney Jay Kaplan joins Craig to discuss the changes and what they mean for michigan.

The answer, in short, is not much.

Kaplan says a couple married in a state where same-sex marriage is legal will not be recognized if they move to a state like Michigan. This is despite the federal government's announcement of its benefits.

On February 25 a US Judge will hear a constitutional challenge to Michigan's gay marriage ban.
