EAA Chancellor Resigns, Interim Appointed But What About The Schools?

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

The State of Michigan’s Education Achievement Authority or EAA is holding a press conference this morning at 10. John Covington the EAA Chancellor announced his resignation early this week. Covington has been on the job for two years of a three year contract. The EAA is responsible for oversight of 15 failing DPS schools. The state supported Authority had been intending to ultimately take over more failing schools across the state but that effort seems to be going nowhere. Today’s press conference is intended to introduce Veronica Conforme, a former New York City educator, as interim chancellor and perhaps outline where the authority goes from here. Bridge Magazine Education Reporter Chastity Pratt Dawsey joins Craig for a conversation in advance of the press conference.
