DETROIT BY DESIGN 2012: The Detroit Riverfront Competition was an international ideas competition open to architects, landscape architects, planners, designers and artists. The objective of the competition was to dispel notions of what Detroit is or should be, and to challenge people to think creatively about what is possible, and to solicit big ideas that might transform the city and its relationship to the Detroit's waterfront. The competition focused on the area between Cobo Hall and the Renaissance Center and between Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit River. This section of Riverfront which includes Hart Plaza is at the heart of the city. Craig Fahle spoke to Joongsub Kim, Chair of the American Institute of Architects about the competition.
