Creative Dissent: Art of the Arab World Uprising

Monday December 16, 2013

Imagine trying to create art when your country is in the midst of a revolution, amidst chaos. An exhibit at the Arab American National Museum, called “Creative Dissent: Art of the Arab World Uprising” shows how artists used graffiti, video, blog postings, and cartoons to express what was happening around them during the Arab Spring. This exhibition was guest curated by Christiane Gruber, Associate Professor of Islamic Art at the University of Michigan. She spoke to WDET’s Martina Guzman about the significance of the exhibit.
