Ruth Ellis Center for LGBTQ Teens Gets Additional Support

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

The Ruth Ellis Center has received another round of funding from the Arcus Foundation. Craig speaks with the center's Executive Director, Laura Hughes and Frank, a teen who uses the center. Hughes says "The Ruth Ellis Center is able to continue the advocacy work begun in 2011 through a second $100,000 grant from the Arcus Foundation. The grant will fund the center’s work in the Out in the System Leadership Program, which leverages the influential voices of lesbian, gay, bi-attractional, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth to become involved in civic engagement, social action and advocacy training with a specific emphasis on the Children’s Welfare System".

Ruth Ellis Center is the Midwest’s only organization and one of four in the nation that is solely dedicated to serving homeless, at-risk and runaway LGBTQ youth.
