It’s no secret that finding fresh produce in Detroit is a big contributor to a nutrition crisis in the city. But there’s a group of people who think the problem is bigger than that. They say too many people here have lost touch with where their food comes from… what it means to nurture fruits and vegetables from seeds to harvest.

Earthworks Urban Farm sits on a few lots of land in a residential neighborhood on the east side of Detroit. The farm has a couple of large, transparent hoop-houses, and is attached to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. As part of our Call To Action campaign, WDET’s Laura Weber spoke with Earthworks organizers.
