The music we know as Funk originated in the late 1960’s when Black musicians started blending soul, Jazz and R&B. Latinos were inspired by the mixture of sounds and created their own version of the genre, called Latin-Funk.
The Latin funk group Brownout began as a side band by some members of the Grammy-winning Latin ensemble Grupo Fantasma. They wanted to test new sounds but quickly learned they had something bigger to offer. Now, Brownout is getting lots of fans and glowing reviews. Their newest album is Oozy. Member Greg Gonzales spoke with Maria Hinojosa on "Tell Me More."
