Black Opera Use Theater to Challenge Genre of Hip-Hop

Tuesday December 18, 2012

Black Opera is a Hip-Hop group that uses masks, costumes, and the art of theater in an attempt to blow open perceptions about the genre of Rap. They use their lyrics to challenge listeners to think and dream bigger about themselves and society.

WDET’s Laura Weber-Davis spoke with the two lead rappers in the group -- Sensu and Nokbai [KNOCK-bye] -- who also performed live in the WDET studio.

Black Opera has a show coming up on December 23rd at The Shelter at St. Andrew’s Hall. Their performance is part of the MetroTimes "Ugly Sweater Extravaganza."
