Will the much-anticipated new Amazon Fire Phone propel the online retailer to new heights? Or is this a risky experiment for Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos? Craig speaks with Senior Technology Writer for NBC News Digital Julianne Pepitone about the potential impact the phone could have on the tech world.

Pepitone says Amazon and At&T have an exclusive carrier deal, which is unusual but will likely lead to an expanded deal with other carriers later on. Critics say the phone follows suit with other Amazon hardware and has a total lack of personality. However, features like a visual scanning program called "Firefly" and 3-D technology make the phone an exciting but risky venture.

Pepitone says "the smart phone ecosystem is all about the third party app," so the success of the Fire Phone could hinge upon Amazon's ability to add other outside programs and features. Amazon's new Fire Phone is available to pre-order and shipments are set to go out July 25.
