Craig and Agnes Aleobua, Principal University Yes Academy discuss the history and philosophy of the new private charter school. UYA started with 94 sixth graders last fall in its newly-renovated Westside Detroit school, and will add a grade each year until it is a full grades 6-12 secondary school. The school day runs from 8am to 5pm , an extra two hours a day that sums to an additional 50 days of learning each year. Students who need help completing their homework or need extra tutoring stay an additional 90 minutes from 5pm – 6:30pm.
