ACLU Brings Lawsuit Over Racial Profiling At Metro Airport

Wednesday January 23, 2013

The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and the law firm of Covington & Burling announced they are bringing a lawsuit against the airline and government agencies responsible for the arrest, detainment and strip-search of a freelance journalist at Detroit Metro Airport on Sept. 11, 2011. Shoshana Hebshi, 36, was born and raised in California. Her mother is Jewish and her late father emigrated from Saudi Arabia to the United States. On the day of the incident, the mother of two was forcibly removed from an airplane in handcuffs, strip searched, and held for four hours in a small cell even though there was no evidence that she had done anything suspicious.

Craig speaks with Sara Mehta, ACLU Staff Attorney, about the lawsuit and the issue of racial profiling.
