The Craig Fahle Show

Public Parks and Classical Music Team Up for Summer in Michigan

June 20, 2014

Anne Parsons of the DSO and John McCulloch, Director of Huron-Clinton Metroparks, join Craig Fahle to talk about partnering to bring "An American Celebration" of music to Detroit's regional park system.

The DSO kicks off the summer season on Saturday, June 21 with their long-awaited return to Stony Creek Metropark for a scenic lakeside concert followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Conductor Brett Mitchell will lead the orchestra in “An American Celebration,” a program of classics by American masters (Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, John Williams) and the music of composers who were inspired by the people and culture of the USA (Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, Dvořák). This will include a special performance of Saint-Saëns’ Havanaise by DSO Associate Concertmaster Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy. The performance will begin at 8:30 p.m. with grounds opening at 6 p.m.
