This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Idlewild, an African-American resort community in northwest Michigan. It was founded in 1912 as a place for African-Americans to vacation and get away from the racial volatility of the cities. At the time, the prevalence of racial segregation made it impossible for African-Americans to vacation in predominantly white resort towns. Craig speaks with John Meeks, co-founder of the Idlewild African-American Chamber of Commerce, about the history of Idlewild and how it has changed over its 100 year history.
