TARDIS Library opening in Woodbridge Neighborhood

Doctor Who fans find reading library in TARDIS

On the corner of Vermont and Warren in Detroit, a blue phone booth stands tall as a free library for kids in the community.

It may look familiar to those who are fans of the British television show, “Doctor Who”. Its main character, The Doctor, travels through time and space in a machine called a TARDIS, an acronym for “Time and Relative Dimension in Space”. The exterior of the ship resembles an early-20th century British police call box.

Dan Zemke owns the replica booth. He says, like the TARDIS, books can open up worlds.

In the TV show when you go into the TARDIS it’s bigger on the inside a whole interior of a spaceship and we couldn’t do that but we thought was kinda clever to fill the TARDIS with things that are actually bigger on the inside themselves books holding whole literary worlds

Zemke says he hopes when people see the library, they’ll take a look and leave a book.
