New State Pot Bureau Ready to Regulate and Collect $$$

Bureau of Medical Marihuana (yes, that’s how it’s spelled) Regulation should be one stop shop

The State of Michigan announced this week the establishment of the Bureau of Medical Marihuana Regulation. The new organization, under the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Department, is responsible for enforcement of laws governing the medical marijuana industry.

It will also collect application and regulatory assessment fees and a 3-percent gross sales tax.

Until now, patients had been allowed up to 12 plants or possession of two-and-a-half ounces of pot, acquired through a designated caregiver.

Andrew Brisbo is the new director of the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation. He tells WDET’s Amy Miller the laws enacted this year dramatically change how the industry is regulated.
