Young adults raising awareness about plight homeless children

Young professionals are taking to the streets this week to help raise awareness for homeless children. The group plans to spend the night in cardboard boxes to help bring attention to Covenant House-Detroit. The organization offers shelter and other services for youth with nowhere else to stay. Gary Washington is a professional hardware engineer for automotive supplier, Preh. He says he can finally give back.

Growing up I watched my family struggle to pay bills and food became scarce sometimes, so my church family stepped in and helped us get through that. So I was looking for a place that just works for me to be able to give back some of that same love and encouragement”

It’s the First Annual Young Professionals Sleep Out for Covenant House. The organization says in addition to raising awareness, it also hopes to raise funds to pay for its programs.
