Study: Historic Designations Increase Property Values

Michigan communities have variations in home prices, linked to preservation efforts, advocates say.

Historic designations for neighborhoods, homes or business districts can significantly increase property values, according to a new study from the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.

The Lansing-based group examined past and present data about property values in Ann Arbor, Bay City, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, says Ellen Thackery, the Network’s southeast Michigan field representative.
