Homeowners Can Avoid Foreclosure During “Taxpayer Saturdays”

The Wayne County Treasurer’s Office is holding a series of foreclosure prevention sessions this month.

Homeowners can get free assistance to prevent foreclosures during “Taxpayer Saturdays” this month.

The events are hosted by the Wayne County Treasurer’s office to help residents get the information they need to pay their taxes or start a payment plan.

Treasurer Eric Sabree says some homeowners may even be eligible for partial or full tax exemptions.

“This is something that we find that a lot of taxpayers don’t know,” Sabree says. “They’re behind on their taxes — we can’t help them with the back taxes, but going forward, some of them may not have to pay taxes at all in the future.”

Sabree says veterans are eligible for full tax exemptions.

He says residents can also learn how property taxes work so that they can avoid unnecessary fees.

“Taxpayer Saturdays” will take place at Wayne County Community College Locations.
