WGPR is opening a museum featuring the first African-American run TV station.

A museum showcasing America’s first African-American-owned TV station is coming to Detroit. The William V. Banks Broadcast Museum and Media Center plans to open today.

The museum will be housed in the former studios of WGPR on East Jefferson Avenue. Karen Hudson Samuels is the executive director of the WGPR-TV Historical Society. She spoke with WDET’s Bre’Anna Tinsley about the exhibits that will be featured in the museum.
