Ambitious Detroit Urban Farm Project Adds Hoop Houses
Recovery Park finalizes purchase of City owned land and breaks ground for new indoor gardens
An ambitious 15 million dollar project to develop a large scale urban farm on the city’s east side is breaking ground today. It’s been a year since Detroit officials signed a deal with the Recovery Park Project. The plan includes about a hundred acres including some land owned by the City near Mack and Chene. In exchange for a chance to purchase the land, Recovery Park has promised to hire over 100 Detroiters who have barriers to employment. Under the contract Recovery Park has also been required, within one year, to complete clean-up, remediation, blight removal and site preparation. Recovery Park CEO Gary Wozniak tells WDET’s Amy Miller that so far the project has been able to meet all of its benchmarks
