The artist Swoon talks about her work inside the DIA, the Library Street Collective Gallery & two Detroit murals

Swoon with ‘Monica’ at Ally Detroit Center

Internationally exhibiting artist Swoon is known for emotionally illustrative wheatpaste portraits. You can find them in galleries and museums but she often works on the streets of cities she visits, transcending global preconceptions of street art.

The artist has been working feverishly in Detroit for a few weeks, with an installation at the Detroit Institute of Arts, a gallery show at the Library Street Collective Gallery, a collaborative mural on  East Jefferson as well as a commission from Bedrock outside the Ally Detroit Center.

That’s where Culture Shift’s Travis Wright found her, putting the finishes touches on a piece she calls ‘Monica.’
