VW Dropping Price to Upgrade Sales

Beset by falling U.S. sales after emissions cheating scandal, VW vows to cut prices, expand range of models offered.

Volkswagen is pledging to lower prices of vehicles it sells in the U.S. in an effort to boost sales hit hard by a series of scandals involving the automaker.

Volkswagen’s U.S. sales dropped this year after the automaker publicly acknowledged that it had cheated during fuel emissions testing to make it look as if their vehicles produced less smog than they actually did.

VW paid heavy fines for falsifying the results and reportedly is giving its U.S. dealerships a total of more than $1 billion to offset losses incurred because of the scandal.

Now the automaker vows to cut the price of its U.S products and expand the range of models it offers.

Well before the scandal erupted VW dealers complained that the company’s product line did not match the kind of vehicles U.S. customers were searching for.

Experts say about 10% of all cars sold in Europe are Volkswagens but it has less than 2% of the U.S. market.
