DWSD: WRAP is NOT Running Out of Money

DWSD and GLWA say despite recent reports WRAP is not running out of money.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department and Great Lakes Water Authority are denying claims that their water bill assistance program is running out of money.

Earlier this week, the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency and several news outlets reported that the WRAP program’s funding was diminishing.

Wayne Metro C-E-O Louis Piszker says there was confusion in the statements his organization released. He says these statements referred to funding from last fiscal year.

“We have reported to the Great Lakes Water Authority Board at the beginning of the month giving them a year-end closeout report. Within that report, we have stated that all of the money had been spent and committed. And I think that’s where the disconnect happened,” Piszker says.

Piszker says enrollment for the program has not stopped.

The water departments say there is more than four million dollars currently available for residents who need help paying their water bills.
