Detroit’s Downtown Development Authority is approving a plan to redevelop a historic neighborhood.

Paradise Valley Cultural and Entertainment District will feature commercial and retail space, housing, and entertainment venues in Detroit’s downtown area.

Mayor Mike Duggan calls it an effort to recapture the history and culture of the original Paradise Valley in the area surrounding Harmonie Park.

“Paradise Valley was a few clock from here and was wiped out more than a half a century ago when Hasting’s Street was bulldozed to make way for the Chrysler freeway. But its history and tradition lives on in the hearts of Detroiters,” Duggan says.

Duggan says reviving Paradise Valley is part of a plan to create an inclusive city for Detroiters.

The development will take three years to complete at a cost of about 52 million dollars.
