Study Finds Detroit is One of Nation’s Hot Spots for HIV

New map launches that can show where cases of HIV are, locations where people can be tested for the disease.

Experts say that Detroit is one of 40 cities in the nation most affected by cases of HIV.

The vast majority of new cases of HIV diagnosed in the city involve men.

And one out of every three people who have HIV find out only a few months before developing AIDS.

So officials are launching a new interactive online map to help people find where HIV is occurring and where treatment is offered.

The lead researcher for the project, Emory University Professor Patrick Sullivan, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the information is especially important to African Americans.

There are several useful tools to examine where HIV is being reported in a given area.
