8 Mile Road Bridge Re-Opens Early

Construction on the Eight Mile Road bridge over US-23 is ending three weeks ahead of schedule.

The Eight Mile Road bridge over northbound US-23 is re-opening Wednesday morning. The overpass was torn down after a semi-truck hit it and caused unrepairable damage.

Michigan Department of Transportation Spokesperson Kari Arend says the opening is three weeks ahead of schedule.

“We had an aggressive contractor come in and do the work, and we also had good weather, so several factors allowed us to get that bridge back open earlier than expected,” Arend says.

Arend says the bridge is temporary. A new bridge will be built just north of the temporary one. She says MDOT is seeking full reimbursement from the trucking company for the repairs.
